It was week six in the RuPaul’s Drag Race Season 17 workroom, and there were still 12 contestants in the race. Yes, at this point only TWO queens have been eliminated. RuPaul wasted no time, entering the workroom and demanding the queens get in glory hole quick drag. They would be transferring Anastasia Beverly Hills lipsticks from their mouths, of course. It seemed like they had a lot of fun with that challenge.
Team Ru, which consisted of Onya Nurve, Suzie Toot, Lexi Love, Sam Star, Lydia B. Collins, and Acacia Forgot. Announcing that this team won didn’t really matter because they did not get any special perks from their performance at the glory hole, unfortunately.
Following the mini-challenge, Ru shared that this week’s episode was a ball! The queens would be upcycling marine debris into high-fashion garments. Lexi was so excited as she is known for making looks out of upcycled materials.
A lot of queens were confident going into this ball. Arrietty was thankful she survived last week and was able to participate in another design challenge. Jewels Sparkles, Sam, and Susie were also feeling good about their sewing talents. Lana Ja’Rae was told that she was almost in the bottom last design challenge, so she was feeling the pressure.
If you read The Week in Drag, and I know you did, you already know this! But, Sam shared that Charles Barkley is her mom’s best friend and her godfather. He has come to her gigs and RuPaul was loving every second of that story.
After a fun segment, we got a sad segment. Lexi left her outfit outside to dry after being spray painted. Something happened where her blue outfit got spray painted over. Onya shared that it was an accident on her and Arrietty’s part, where they thought her dress was a tarp to protect the ground. They both felt bad and apologized, but since Onya didn’t speak up when Lexi originally brought it up, she was mad.
The dust had settled a bit when it was a new day in the workroom. Lexi, Onya, and Arrietty put an end to spray paint gate. Everyone made up, and Lexi was able to save her outfit. All was well in the end, thank god because I love all three of them.
It was time for the queens to hit the runway in front of Ru, Michelle Visage, new rotating judge Law Roach, and special guest judge, the legendary Hunter Schafer. The queens would be featuring three looks in the Let’s Get Sea Sickening Ball.
The first category was bathing beauties. My favorites were Suzie, Arrietty, and Sam. Category two was sea creature couture. I loved Crystal’s take on a puffer fish, Jewels’ sea slug, Arrietty’s lionfish, and Lexi’s jellyfish. The final category was seasickening eleganza, the looks they created from upcycled materials. I liked Crystal, Onya, and Arrietty. It was a strong night for Arrietty!
Jewels, Lydia, Kori, Onya, Lexi, and Suzie were all safe this week. Sam, Arrietty, and Crystal were the tops of the week. Acacia, Hormona Lisa, and Lana were the bottom three. The win went to Arrietty, while Hormona and Lana fell into the bottom. The song was Get Him Back by Olivia Rodrigo, which is a true bop. That performance started out a little boring to me, but they both won me over in the end. RuPaul and I had the same opinion, Lana should live to slay another day. Hormona was eliminated.
Alright, friends. I’ll see you next week for what appears to be a rough Snatch Game!
