Hello, I bet you thought you’d seen the last of me! I’m back because the state of the world is so horrific right now that we all deserve a little bit of time away from bad news to celebrate what our favorite drag queens are doing. Here’s the scoop for this week!
The queens of season 17 faced a hate crime in Las Vegas
Suzie Toot recently opened up about an experience in Las Vegas that put the cast of the current season at risk. “We did get hate crimed! Suzie Toot can’t catch a break. We were taking photos in front of the Las Vegas sign and we had to cut everybody because we’re famous and we have things to do. As we were taking pictures, someone went, ‘Boo! Not in front of the children,'” she told Pride. She shared that Onya Nurve and Lana Ja’Rae stood up for them, and that made it worth it in the end.
Support the employees of Milwaukee’s oldest gay bar
Sadly, another amazing gay establishment has closed down. This Is It!, a bar in Milwaukee for over 50 years and was co-owned by Trixie Mattel, has sadly shut down. To support the staff without a job, Trixie created a t-shirt where proceeds go directly to them. If you’d like to support, you can find the shirt here.
Werq the World will be back this year!
Looking to see a bunch of your favorite queens on stage this year? The Werq the World tour is hitting the road again to make all your dreams come true. Jimbo will host, with performances by Daya Betty, Derrick Barry, Jaida Essence Hall, Jorgeous, Kim Chi, Naomi Smalls, Marina Summers, Morphine Love Dion, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, and allegedly, a surprise finalist from Season 17!
Rain on 4th shut down on false claims
We all know this political climate has been horrible for the queer community, and an iconic gay bar in Austin, TX, felt the impact. The city tried to shut down the bar on false claims that they were over capacity, when they were not. The city then said they had “the wrong address,” but the bar is calling it what it is: an attack on the city’s LGBTQIA+ community. Now more than ever, it is important to support your local queer bars!
Farewell to Barracuda
One of New York City’s most legendary gay bars, Barracuda will be closing their doors this weekend. Sadly, construction in the area is damaging the bar and making it unsafe. So many legendary New York queens have performed in this amazing venue and its another big loss for the queer community in the Big Apple.
