Whether hitting the Las Vegas stage, appearing on television screens everywhere on RuPaul’s Drag Race, or entertaining the masses globally as part of the Werq The World Tour, one thing is certain; Derrick Barry remains the quintessential entertainer. Now,. Barry has stepped off the stage and into the recording studio, with her aptly named debut studio album Hey Derrick (which debuted on April 16th, 2025 and is available everywhere).
Hey Derrick is a stacked package of tracks that pay homage to Derrick Barry as an artist, but also give a wink and a nod to the performer we’ve come to know Barry as. “Ratings’ is a rapid-fire anthem that pays homage to Barry’s ability to get eyes on projects he participates in (with a cute nod to The Haters Roast as well as a former All Stars competitor), while “Wrecked & Tangled” is a more upbeat pop bop. “Heart So High” is a moody anthem and “Flaunt It” is a party track where Barry is joined by Nebraska Thunderfuck (aka one of Barry’s partners, Mackenzie Claude) and Velo. Speaking of Mackenzie Claude, he also has conceptualized, written, and arranged all of the tracks on “Hey Derrick” with production courtesy of Australian dynamo and uber-producer Dads Mayo.
This summer, Barry is juggling dropping a debut album with appearing on WOW Presents Plus RuPaul’s Drag Race Live!-Untucked Season 2 along with headlining the Werq The World Tour, with sixty five shows around the globe! Barry is also headlining RuPaul’s Drag Race Live! at the legendary Flamingo in Las Vegas, and for this drag/pop superstar, headlining stages across the globe is simply a culmination of everything she has experienced so far. “Pop music is the reason I do drag” Barry says. “These songs are more than club bangers. This album is a homage to the wild ride I’ve been on these last twenty years. The highs, the lows, and the controversies in-between”.
