Well, we’re back for another season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars, but this season is like nothing we’ve ever seen before. This is the Tournament of All-Stars, which means there are three brackets of six queens. Each bracket will get three weeks on our screens until the top 3 have been selected, then they advance to the next round and we start all over with the next bracket. I hope you’re following along because I barely am.
No one goes home! Everything is based on points! Once a top 3 is picked from all 3 brackets, the winners will face off in the semi-finals. Whoever advances will make it to the finals, and someone from that group will win! Got it? I hope so.
We got two episodes to kick off the season, starting with RuPaul wearing a wig out of drag and all. Bracket one consists of Aja, Deja Skye, Irene the Alien, Phoenix, Olivia Lux, and Bosco.
Remember that point system I just mentioned? Here’s how it works. Each week the top 2 queens will get 2 points each. They will lip sync for the win, and the winner will snag an extra point. An additional 4 points will be awarded each episode, however! Keep reading if you want to find out why and how because Ru made me wait so I’m making you do the same.
First challenge was a music video shoot! The queens will be writing their own verses and creating rock-inspired hair looks. As the queens entered the work room to jump into it, they saw that there were scoreboards and jumpsuits for each queen. I love how much they are truly leaning into the sports angle.
Queens already started forming alliances. Aja and Olivia are in the same ballroom house, Irene and Bosco have been friends for years, and Deja might team up with Olivia.
It was time for the queens to hit the stage and learn the choreography for the video with Jamal Sims. I really felt a connection to Bosco’s quote about being able to do cool things but preferring to be lazy instead. I felt very seen. Sadly, they did not let us watch them record their verses.
On the mainstage, Ru was joined by Michelle Visage, the hilarious Ross Mathews, and Ice Spice.
First, they walked the runway in the category ‘Slits and Tits.’ These girls were not messing around with their runways. Bosco’s look was my favorite, but I really enjoyed Phoenix and Deja’s looks as well.
The video for the song Winner Winner Chicken Dinner was a lot of fun. I thought Aja’s verse was really great, and Irene performed so well! It looked like everyone had fun performing, too. It was a different vibe than usual for the show and I loved it.
Aja, Bosco, and Irene were the top 3 of the week with Aja and Irene making the top 2. They faced off to Think U The Shit (Fart) by Ice Spice. It was really fun to hear RuPaul say that song title. Aja absolutely ate that performance up.
Aja won, landing her 3 points. Irene got 2 points for placing in the top. Now here’s where the twist comes in. Each week, the bottom 4 queens will receive a point, but they cannot keep it themselves. They have to give it to the queen they thought was the most valuable that week. But that’ll have to wait until the next episode. Thank goodness it is already available for streaming! See you over on post number two!
