Courtney grew up as an Air Force brat, moving all over Canada, the US, and Europe. Her nomadic upbringing and perpetual “new kid” status helped her develop the …outgoing… personality we see all over our social networks today.Between moves, Courtney was a competitive dancer, doing ballet, pointe, jazz, hip hop, modern, lyrical, belly dance, pole, and aerial silks and hoops throughout the years. She also joined several competitive swim teams, coming in second place during every single race she ever participated in, and tricked musical theatre directors into giving her lead roles based on a sheer love for crowd-pleasing rather than any great singing.
After high school, Courtney got a Bachelor of Arts, Honours at Carleton University in Ottawa Canada. She completed a double major in human rights and law with a minor in women’s and gender studies. After that, she stayed at Carleton to complete a Master’s degree in women’s and gender studies, convincing her department to let her fangirl for two years by writing her thesis on Lady Gaga and identity activism. Courtney’s Lady Gaga thesis lead her to co-create and co-run a Gaga fan YouTube channel called Free Bitch TV for a year and a half. Through making skits and costumes with a friend, Courtney got to meet Gaga several times and even danced on stage with her.
Through fellow Gaga fans, Courtney discovered RuPaul’s Drag Race and took fangirling to a whole new level. As part of the Drag Coven, she has spent the last year traveling with Jamie and Meghan all over the continent, dressing as and meeting drag queens (from the show and otherwise) all over Canada and the U.S. She even started performing as a bio queen herself on the few occasions she’s actually home in Ottawa. When she’s not running around with the Coven, Courtney makes her living as a writer, creating course materials on subjects like makeup artistry, hair styling, and wedding planning for an international online school. You can almost always find her crafting gifts and outfits, making friends with drag queens and writing socially critical feminist rants online, or having some kind of excited fangirl meltdown.
