Austin International Drag Festival Headliner Announcement: Flarington King has proudly partnered up with the Austin International Drag Festival this year and we have been given the privilege of announcing this year’s headliners first! We are so excited about being a part of this amazing event this year and we cannot wait to bring you all the fabulous drag artists that are going to be headlining this year!

We are very excited to announce that Flarington King will be headlining the Austin International Drag Festival this year! (Get your tickets here and join us in Austin this fall!)

Congratulations Flarington on being named a headliner! How did you get involved with the Austin International Drag Festival and what does this opportunity mean to you?

I got invited to the 2nd Austin International Drag Festival because Eaton (who was on the committee) recommended me. Eaton and I met at the International Drag King Community Extravaganza (IDKE) and performed next to one another Internationally at IDKE at the Great Big International Drag King Show for years. It meant everything to be remembered by Eaton and brought into the Austin International Drag Festival. This will be my third time headlining at the festival. It has become my new IDKE, where I meet and am inspired by fellow performers from all over the world

For those people living under a rock, can you tell us a little bit about Flarington King and your drag?

This November will mark my 24th year as a producer and performer. I started performing internationally at the very first IDKE (1999) and have been travelling ever since. In 2002 I started performing draglesque to show fluidity, gender expression, and to dismantle the concepts of ‘attraction’. I believe that drag can be anything and is for everyone, that playing with gender is not only healthy ,it’s fun and exciting. I have co-produced a documentary called “A Drag King Extravaganza” distributed by Frameline Studios. I’m working on my second documentary, and started sharing our history through a regular show in Toronto, Canada called “Drag King Decades”. Drag King-ing is a life’s passion.

We can’t wait to see what you’re planning on bringing to the stage in Austin! Can you give the WERRRK .com universe a little tease of what’s to come this fall in Texas?

Impersonation is one thing – reconstruction is another. Can’t wait to share with Austin more of my Flare!
