Fashion of Thrones: Top Ten Looks of Westeros

Valar Morghulis. After what feels like decades, Game of Thrones is finally returning this Sunday for it’s final season. Much like yourself, I am so heartbroken and quite emotional. At this time I am constantly reminding myself of the common cliche, “Don’t cry because it is over, smile because it happened. Well, it’s not working! But until the season begins, the least we can do is binge watch and reminisce about the incredible journey Game of Thrones has taken us on.

So what are we focusing on tonight? Well the costumes of course! Join me as I break down my top ten favorite looks throughout the many seasons of Game of Thrones.

Margaery Tyrell in Blue

Since her entrance in season two, Queen Margaer Tyrell played by Natalie Dormer was always serving looks. Her plethora of pastel Tyrell colored dresses were trend setters in Westeros. Even as Margaery was blown to a million pieces within the Great Sept of Baelor, Margaery still looked amazing. Yaaas Queen!

Daenerys in The Dance of Dragons

Daenerys Targaryen played by Emilia Clarke is undoubtedly one of the major fashionable characters in this show. One of my favorite Daenerys fashion moments was within Daznak’s Pit . As the Sons of the Harpy attempt an assassination, Daenerys wears a beautiful white gown with a sickening dragon necklace. If this outfit wasn’t enough to slay her enemies, Daenerys then mounts Drogon for the first time. The rest is history.

Ellaria Sand

Ellaria Sand played by Indira Varma was one of my favorite characters. One big reason is obviously because of these looks she is giving me. Her signature is always seen through the shoulder design. The most famous look of Ellaria’s was for sure the dress she wore in “The Mountain and the Viper”. Don’t remember what episode I am talking about? Oh just the one where the Mountain squeezes Oberyn’s brains all over the place and Ellaria gives that famous scream. Regardless of the horror, she looked freaking amazing through it all.

Sansa Stark in Black

One important lesson from this show is if you see Sophie Turner’s character, Sansa Stark coming your way while wearing black, you better get the hell out of her way. One of my favorite moments was after Aunt Lysa died, Sansa was clearly in a good mood and got herself a new bad-ass black wardrobe, including this black raven feather dress. That dress is so fierce! Sidney often refers to this new character as Darth Sansa. Perfect.

Cersei Lannister in Regalia

Cersei Lannister played by Lena Headey took the regal gown to another level. Love her or hate her… you have to admit that she always looks amazing. Cersei always carried a similar silhouette that embodied a flowy floor length gown, with a draped sleeve. This red gown in particular ties in the colors of her house, as well as her infamous silhouette.

Brienne of Tarth

Brienne of Tarth played by Gwendoline Christie is by far one of my favorite characters. In terms of costume, I had to put her on my top list because she is just crushing stereotypes with this character and costume. No one can dare say to me that a knight cannot be a women. NO ONE! Because Brienne is easily the greatest knight Westeros has ever seen/ Plus, she has the coolest sapphire blue armor in existence. We love Gwendoline Christie.

Daenerys Targaryen at Dragonstone

Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name, The Unburnt, Queen of the Andals, the Rhoynar … and you know the rest. Daenerys has so many looks worthy of this list. But easily one of her best is well, her entire season 7 wardrobe. When the queen stepped onto the shores of Dragonstone for the first time in all black I was catching the feels. DAMN SHE LOOKS GOOD. I can’t wait to see what she brings out next season.

Olenna Tyrell in Black

Olenna Tyrell played by Dame Diana Rigg to some is known as The Queen of Thorns. But to others, she is the Queen of Shaaaaade. Even in her dying moments, Olenna was letting those damn Lannisters have it. Olenna had a signature look that was very specific to her character and I loved it. Once her family was killed off, her bright colors transitioned into a mourning black. The result? She looked even more bad ass. “Tell Cersei. I want her to know it was me”

Daenerys Beyond the Wall

Daenerys got word that her man Jon Snow is in trouble beyond the wall. At this point, Danerys has never even seen actual snow. So what does she do, she gets this sickening white coat made and rides off on her dragon to kick some ass. Hey, she is a queen she still has to look good. This paneled coat is to die for and a master class in costume design. I still have not gotten over it, even more than a year later.

Cersei Lannister in Black

My queen is tired of your annoyances. One of my all time episodes of Game of Throne is of course, The Winds of Winter. Cersei was not going to be put on trial. To prevent that, she had the Great Sept of Baelor blown to pieces with many of her enemies and innocent lives inside. Does she care? No. Instead she wears this sickening black gown, grabs a glass of wine, and watched the fireworks. I love her so hard.

Cersei from this point only wears black and EVERY. SINGLE. LOOK. is just incredible. Yes, I am biased but I don’t care. This is my column. In the words of Queen Cersei. “every breath you draw in my presence annoys me…”

Well I could go on and on about the fashion in this show. But we don’t have enough time in the world. I would just like to give some serious props to the costume designer, Michele Clapton for creating such an amazing realm of costumes that will be remembered for generations.

Alright now, this Sunday is the final season premiere of Game of Thrones! Ugh, I am so excited and depressed at the same time!
