As Queen of the Universe kicked off its premiere on June 2nd (streaming on Paramount+), competitors from stunning locales like Palermo, Italy (Aura Eternal) and Sydney, Australia (Trevor Ashley) are battling it out for the title of Queen of the Universe along with a cash prize of $250,000! Presiding over the judges panel are RuPaul’s Drag Race judge and recording artist Michelle Visage, multi-faceted powerhouse Vanessa Williams, RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars winner and music darling Trixie Mattel, and joining the panel this year, former Spice Girl and America’s Got Talent judge, Mel B!
Each judge brings their own dynamic talents and perspective to the panel, and that was evident when I sat down with three of the four judges for a chat. Already a stunningly accomplished vocalist herself, Vanessa Williams spoke about the stunning vocals that she witnessed, while Trixie Mattel spoke openly about seeing “people living present on stage in the moment”. As for Visage, even after judging RuPaul’s Drag Race for a decade plus, she still finds it rewarding to watch young queer artists, “so inspiring, so rewarding, and so wonderful” to see next generation get what they want”.
